Aftercare Coordinator
Position Summary
The Aftercare Coordinator is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children participating in the After School Care program. This role requires strong communication, organizational, and supervisory skills to ensure the well-being of all children while fostering positive relationships with families, school staff, and the broader school community.
Hours
4 pm to 6 pm Monday to Friday on school days
Key Responsibilities
Program Supervision and Child Engagement
- Provide a safe, supportive, and inviting environment where children feel welcome, respected, and engaged.
- Supervise children in care with diligence, fairness, and consistency.
- Plan and facilitate both structured and unstructured recreational activities, including indoor gym activities and outdoor playground play.
- Uphold the JKCS Student Code of Conduct during After-Care hours.
- Promote positive behavior, inclusion, and respectful interactions among children.
Communication and Family Relations
- Establish and maintain open, professional communication with parents regarding attendance, child well-being, and any issues that may arise.
- Monitor BASC email communications during evenings and weekends and respond to parent inquiries promptly.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with the before-care staff, office staff, and teachers to support student success and program operations.
Health, Safety, and Program Administration
- Provide and oversee after-school snacks that comply with the JKCS Healthy Eating Policy.
- Inform families that children may bring additional food from home if programming snacks do not meet their preferences.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and update attendance sheets daily.
- Follow all school policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to supervise groups of children safely and positively.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, families, and school personnel.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
